Ever see these weather reports? The ones that say “Current Temp = 36 Degrees, Feels Like = 32 Degrees.” That’s what we’re getting a lot of these days in Northern California. And as the temps drop, the rain, drizzle and fog start to play an increasingly frequent role in the weather pattern. What do you do to ward off the chill in the early winter? My advice, get yourself a pair of running pants (along with a jacket or two, of course). Here’s three that fit the bill.

Adidas Response Astro Pant

We picked these up on a recent trip to the East Coast. Philly was a little chilly and we only packed shorts for our daily run. One stop at a local retailer and we were set with a pair of Adidas Response Astros. They immediately stood out to us because of their running specific features. The legs taper to zippered ankle. Inseam hits right above the ankle so as to not drag on the ground when actually hitting the pavement. Storage is accommodated with three pockets — two on the side seams and one on the right rear, all zippered. A few reflective accents and a drawstring waist complete the offering. Stretch, double knit fabric. Our new favs. About $55. Find them at Amazon.

Champion C9 Running Pant

If you happen to need a bargain, try the Champion C9 Running Pant. You can find them at your lotal Target for about $30. Champion builds the C9 Running Pant from a silky feeling 100% polyester. It’s runs a little long in the inseam. But the fit is nicely tapered and the ankles finish with a zipper for easy on and off. There’s a few reflective accents and a drawstring waist. Pretty straight-ahead pant. Wears well. Find them at Target.

Nike Stretch Woven Pant

The Nike Stretch Woven Pants represent something a little more traditional when it comes to running pant. More warm-up wear than running pant. Although that doesn’t mean you can’t actually run in them. The fit is somewhat loose and the leg mostly straight. The ankle does finish with a zipper so pulling them on over a pair of shoes is pretty do-able. Inseam hits below the ankle so not a perfect choice for hitting the streets, but like I said before, not out of the question. Silky nylon fabric. Side-seam zippered pockets and a few reflective accents pull the pant together. Very comfortable and light. About $65 at REI.

Saucony Boston Pant

We wrote about the Saucony Boston way back in 2011. Even then they were a go-to pant in our winter wardrobe. Saucony still makes them in a knit fabric that feels warm the minute you put it on (and doesn’t seem to get that funky smell other products do). These are the shortest pant in the group with an inseam of 29 inches. Definitely designed to not interfere with your stride on the road and trail. The fit is very slim and depending on who you are, you might want to go up a size. Ankles finish with a zipper. Two side-seam zippered pockets and a sewn-in crease finish out the classic look of this running pant. The Saucony Boston continues to serve us well in the winter months. Available at Amazon for $65.
