Chalk it up to global warming, but the weather in the greater Lake Tahoe region has been nuts. Overnight temps dip into the single digits and top out over 50 degrees during the day. Finding the right jacket to work in these conditions is a challenge but thanks to the people at Cloudveil, Columbia and The North Face, I recently had the chance to put three products through their paces. Here’s a quick snapshot:
- Deep Ghyll Shell from Columbia – a very lightweight softshell jacket that may be the perfect top layer for Spring skiing. See full review.
- Spilway Jacket from The North Face – an insulated hardshell using TNF’s proprietary HyVent fabric. Definitely a good go-to piece for those colder days on the mountain. See full review.
- RPK Softshell from Cloudveil – Somewhere in between the Deep Ghyll and Spilway with softshell performance and lightweight insulated lining. See full review.
Each jacket provides a ton of great features specifically for snow sports. Making the right choice will depend on the conditions and personal preference.
