Ecco Dhaka GTX Mid Review

Ecco Dhaka GTX Mid

First Impressions

Over the past year or so, we tested several Ecco shoes including their Biom B running shoe and Ultra Terrain light hiker with mixed reactions. Not so with the Ecco Dhaka GTX Mid. This boot delivers excellent winter boot performance and instant comfort leaving no question that the Dhaka GTX Mid is one of the best in the category.

Features

Easily the most traditional looking of the boots in our test (see accompanying reviews for the Cushe Tammerack and Lowa Nabucco), the Ecco Dhaka GTX Mid provides all the support you’d expect from a leather hiking boot. Yet Ecco doesn’t use traditional leather. Instead, the company opted for Yak leather which is reportedly three times more durable. In our tests, it scuffed easily but showed no signs of real damage. It also shed water amazingly with no penetration at all when trudging through the snow.

Specs
Upper: Yak leather
Waterproofing: Gore-Tex
Sole: Proprietary rubber
Weight: 3.5 lbs

Underfoot, the Dhaka GTX Mid has plenty of cushion on both the heel and forefoot.

The large lugs gripped the snow well with no slippage. On ice, of course, be careful.

Fit

Despite the Dhaka’s bulky outward appearance, we found this boot to fit like a slipper. Sliding into the boot you feel softness and a slight padding all around from the insulating layer. Very comfortable from first wearing.

Final Verdict

The Ecco Dhaka GTX Mid is dynamite. Great traditional looks, excellent grip and slipper like fit. We put them tops in the category.
