The House of Marley is one of those brands that seems to take their environmental friendliness seriously. Although they’re building technology products, the company makes them from recycled materials, sustainable woods and fabrics. Nice idea and it makes for some nice products. We had the chance to play with Marley’s Chant Sport Bluetooth speaker recently and came away impressed.
The Chant Sport represents the big brother to the Chant BT and Chant Mini. It stands 6.25 inches tall and boasts a modest 2.75 inch diameter. True to its charter, Marley constructed the Chant Sport from a combination of bio-plastic, silicone and recycled aluminum. These elements give the Chant a rather mottled appearance with flecks of rust and various shades of gray evident on the device’s exterior.
Across the top of the Chant, Marley located four buttons. The first is for power.The second handles Bluetooth pairing. Pairing was simple, just hold the button down for three seconds or so to put the speaker in pairing mode, then connect from your phone or iPod. The other two buttons allow you to dial volume up and down.

Performance of the Chant Sport was pretty good. Volume levels stand up to the outdoors. Sound quality tends towards the muddy, however, but not overly so. The portability of the Chant Sport is one of its standout features. It fits perfectly into a water bottle cage thanks to the product’s round shape. Or clip it to your pack — with the included carabiner — for a trip into the woods.
