Based in the Spanish Basque country – a place to which I trace some of my genetic roots – Lorpen is focused on producing “the best technical socks for serious outdoor activities.” Unlike some of the other manufacturers in this test, they gravitate toward more man-made fibers in their products than natural wools and yarns. Their Ultra Light Trail Running Sock is one example of this approach.

The Lorpen Ultra Light Trail Running Socks sock employs five high-tech fibers in its construction. Tencel, Coolmax, nylon, Lycra and Modal all combine into a thin and lightweight product. The Tencel and Coolmax do the moisture management, the nylon, Lycra and Modal do the support and stretch.

Specs

Materials: 36% Tencel, 35% Coolmax, 18% Nylon, 10% EA. Lycra, 1% Modal

Weight: 1.375 oz

We liked the look of the mini-crew style sock. It rises to the mid-ankle and we found that it worked well for running, hiking in a low boot and mountain biking. Fit was very good and the stretch of the fabric was exceptional.
