WaterField is based in San Francisco and manufactures their products locally. No mass production or overseas workforce proclaims the company’s website. WaterField’s product line includes everything from classic messenger bags to a wide range of tablet accessories including those for the iPad. For this test, we received the iPad EXO SleeveCase.

Out of the box, the iPad EXO SleeveCase is quite an impressive little product. Top-notch construction and high-quality materials abound. WaterField builds the bulk of the product from heavy-duty ballistic nylon that’s neoprene padded to protect the iPad. The bottom of our version was covered in a rugged leather for extra durability. The iPad – in a separate case or Smart Cover – slides easily into the iPad EXO SleeveCase and secures underneath a hook and loop closure.

When ordering from the WaterField’s website – www.sfbags.com – you’ll find a range of customization options including trim, orientation, straps and extra pouches.

Protection comes at a price. And that price is bulk and weight. The iPad EXO SleeveCase adds roughly one-inch of padding all around the iPad and it weighs in at 9.75 ounces. That’s a substantial adder to the iPad. In our travels, however, it significantly upped our confidence when packing the iPad from destination to destination. Nary a scratch or ding in transit. It’s also TSA friendly so no need to separate the iPad from its case when going through security.
