First Impressions

I’ve been cold weather running for years searching for just the right attire to combat the elements. I’m a huge fan of ½ zip running shirts, so I was excited to test out the multi-weather ASICS Thermopolis top. The first thing I noticed was the softness of the fabric and its wondrous feel. This top is so soft that you can’t get it on fast enough. Sure enough, this top was very comfortable!

Features

The ASICS Thermopolis ½ Zip running top is loaded with features. The fabric has snap-back elasticity and feels strong and durable. In addition to the brushed feel on both sides, the flat lock stitching enhances comfort and caused no chafing whatsoever. The protective wind panel behind the zipper worked well under blustery conditions. The zipper pull parked neatly in the zipper garage without any flapping.

Although I was able to tuck my MP3 player neatly inside the zippered security pocket on the upper arm, it jostled too much for my liking. Still, I liked having the pocket to store cash, credit cards, and other essentials. The thumb holes on the sleeves pulled down easily and helped keep my hands warm, which was an especially nice feature at the outset of a cold weather run. Speaking of cold, the top was tested at various temperatures. Surprisingly, I felt reasonably well insulated with temperatures in the 40’s. Furthermore, I didn’t feel overcooked with temperatures in the 60’s and above. The zippered neck wind flap worked well to control temperature. Even in the controlled environment of the gym, the top was comfortable.

Another great feature is the retro-reflective material which reflects light back to its source for enhanced nighttime visibility. It worked from as far back as 100 feet. While there is sufficient reflective material on the front, there’s only a small spot on the back.

Fit

The ASICS Thermopolis ½ Zip running top is lightweight and fits very comfortably on the body. It’s a great fitting shirt that runs true to size.

Final Verdict

Outstanding product! It may very well be the most comfortable shirt in my wardrobe. At a MSRP of $70, it’s a little pricey but well worth it.
