For years, I’ve been searching for a good solution to the camp coffee question. Instants, percolators and press-mugs just didn’t cut it for me. They were slow, messy and inconsistent in their results. This summer, I decided to try the GSI Java Press and was knocked over by its simplicity, solid construction and great coffee quality.
GSI makes the Java Press from BPA-free plastic. The exterior of the clear carafe comes covered in neoprene for insulation. The interior is fitted with a press-plunger that hugs the interior. In numerous brewings, the Java Press rarely let grounds seep around the very tight seal.

Brewing with the GSI Java Press is simple and straightforward, same as any similarly styled coffee maker. Drop a few spoonfuls of coarsely ground coffee into the bottom of the carafe, add boiling water, stir, attach the lid and wait. After a few minutes, depress the plunger and pour. In my first use of the Java Press I chose to use Peet’s espresso and was thrilled with the results. I’ve used it on numerous trips this summer and have never once been disappointed.
