Mountain Hardwear Way2Cool Tank Review
First Impressions
No fancy packaging here, the Mountain Hardwear Way2Cool women’s tank arrived in typical athletic shirt cellophane. And that suits us just fine. The cellophane sleeve presents much less waste in keeping with this very gossamer weight product clearly designed for warm weather runs.
Features
Mountain Hardwear claims that the Way2Cool is the “the lightest weight wicking tank ever.” Although we can’t really verify that fact, the Way2Cool was certainly the lightest weight product in this test, more than 2.5 ounces less than Columbia’s Baselayer Lightweight Short Sleeve Top and nearly a full ounce less than the Pearl Izumi In-R-Cool Short Sleeve shirt.
Specs
Fabric: Polyester jersey, mesh
Weight: 2.375 oz
Mountain Hardwear employs a combination of stretch jersey and mesh throughout the Way2Cool. There are mesh panels at the sides that on our runs clearly added to the cooling powers of this shirt. The flat seams also helped us avoid chaffing.
We also had the chance to try a men’s tank from Mountain Hardwear in this test. The Elmoro has muscle-shirt styling that works for some and not others. What did work on the Elmoro all around was the product’s full-mesh back and two-ply front that provided a nice combination of wind blocking and cooling.
Fit
The sculpted and fitted style of the Way2Cool went a long way for us. It was also cut longer than most which was a welcome feature. Runs true to size.
Final Verdict
The Mountain Hardwear Way2Cool delivers everything we expect in warm weather gear. It’s very light weight and provides plenty of cooling. If you’re looking for a new tank, definitely give the Way2Cool a look. You won’t be disappointed.
